It's Time To Re-Define "Only Child Syndrome"

The stigma of being an only child is a powerful one. From time to time, I will meet someone who is surprised because I don't "seem like an only child".
Um . . . Thanks?

SELFISH
AGGRESSIVE
BOSSY
SPOILED ROTTEN
SELF-CENTERED
ENTITLEMENT
LONELY

Raise your hand if you know someone that has, at one point, exhibited one of the personality traits above. Keep your hand raised if that same person has a brother or a sister. Now, raise your other hand if you, yourself have ever been guilty of one or more of those nasty traits.
Arms getting tired???

That's exactly what I thought.

Not a single one of us is born acting like an "only child". Bratty kids are usually a product of their upbringing, whether they have siblings or not.
I have to believe that MOST parents don't set out to "spoil" their children. I wonder if it just sneaks up on them, one tantrum at a time.

So here I am. An only child, raising an only child. As a mother, it is my job to. . .

Teach my son to SHARE, so he is not considered selfish.
Teach my son to be GENTLE, so he does not act aggressive toward others.
Teach my son to RESPECT, so he is not bossy.
Teach my son to be SWEET, so he could never be mistaken as spoiled rotten.
Teach my son to be EMPATHETIC, so nobody accuses him of being self centered.
Teach my son how it feels to WORK HARD for what he wants, because there is nothing worse than a man with entitlement issues. :)
and finally . . .
Teach my son the importance of finding PEACE within himself, so he will never be lonely.

Thank you, Mom.
If I am able to teach my son any of these things, I owe IT ALL to you!
I.L.Y!

Amber Teething Necklaces . . . Hippie Hype?

Want to win a FREE Amber Teething Necklace?  Scroll down for GIVEAWAY link... "Awwww, What's his na . . . oh sorry HER name?" (as Jackson's Amber necklace peeks out of his collar) Please don't get me wrong, I am in no way offended by this simple assumption. But I'm sorry, have you seen this kid? He is ALL boy, if I've ever seen one. Jackson sporting his Amber necklace in polished yellow Now back to the necklace. About one week before my lil' monster decided to make his earthly debut, I got a little package in the mail that I was really excited about. It was a Dark Cherry Raw Amber* Teething Necklace. It was so cool that I wanted one for myself. I had only recently learned some pretty interesting things about Amber. First things first, the most common question I have heard . . . Is it for chewing? No, it most definitely is not. It actually warms to the body temperature, and then releases trace amounts of a natural healing substance cal...

Cloth V.S. Disposable . . . It's not just about the environment

So here I was again, pregnant with my son and trying to wade through the virtual piles of research I had compiled on diaper options. You would think this would be a super easy decision . . . but I was a Crunchy mom-to-be in a world full of Cashmere and Silk. As a matter of fact, before I joined my Bradley Group, I only knew one person cloth diapering . . . and she is over 500 miles away. Thank you 'neighbor'. You know who you are, and you know I love ya ! This is what I knew * Cloth is better for the environment - Less waste in the landfills * I really wanted to make cloth work, long before I found out I was pregnant * My son is worth all the hard work. 'Wait . . . how hard will it be?" * Baby butts wearing a cloth diaper are simply ADORABLE !   This is what I was told *"Cloth diapers smell so bad, even when they are just wet" *"It is so much easier to use disposables" *...

Monkey Business

Meet Monk .  He has been photobombing Jackson's pictures since he was just a week old. Who doesn't love a good sock monkey, and when I found a 4ft tall one. . . I just KNEW he would be coming home with me. Each Friday, we have a mini photo shoot to document Jackson's growth. It usually takes several shots to get the right one. I have been asked by several friends and family; "How long are you planning to keep this up?"  Well, I have to admit that I've imagined several scenarios that include a Monk pic, in Jackson's future.  Including, but DEFINITELY not limited to. . .  1st day of school every year  (which should be easy and without MUCH embarassment, as I'm planning to homeschool) 1st   time driving legally  (I am guessing Monk won't be allowed to bomb his DL pic? I'll ask) 1st date  (too much?) High School Graduation  (maybe one of Monk's smaller buddies will be easier for me to smuggle in) Wedding D...
